Fashion Suggestions for the 1920's

I want to view Research web sites

I want to buy on the web

If you are coming to the Wean Races this year and want to get in the Buccaneer scheme of things and dress the period, this page is dedicated to helping you get the right look.

Each year we display on this page examples of fashions that were prevalent during the period which coincides with our dress theme. What they looked like, where to go for materials if you wanted to make your own, where to go if you wanted to hire your own, costume shops etc.

Our dress themes have proved to be very popular. Since we started the concept, we have had the pleasure of seeing some of the most magnificent handmade costumes you would find anywhere in the world, made and displayed by, and for, the benefit of Wean Patrons. We hope that this concept will continue in popularity for long into the future.

Below is a guide as to what the various male and female dress and accoutrements of the period looked like. The Golden Age of Piracy, a part of which is the buccaneer period, is an era which is not as well documented as we might hope. the majority of information we have comes from writings from the period, and paintings.. There is a large body of information on the internet, and we have listed some helpful websites below. But we advise that if you really want to get into the theme and do a good job, you do your own research. Here we just offer a guide as to what fashion in the period might have looked like.

As we do every  year, we are offering extra fashion prizes for the following: Most Authentic Men’s buccaneer outfit; Most Authentic Women’s outfit;  Most Authentic couple dressed in period: The best handmade women’s costume.

Good luck with it to you all, and look forward to seeing the results of your efforts on race day.
